What can patients with weak donors in their heads do?

22.03.2024

Firstly, hair transplantation is a transplant procedure. We should be aware of this. In a transplant procedure, there is a recipient and a donor. In this article, we will discuss donor areas in hair transplantation.

In hair transplantation, the donor area is generally the area between the two ears at the back of the head. In cases where there is not enough hair in this area, the chin area below the jaw can be used as the second donor area. The area around the nipple on the chest can be used as the third donor area.

The chin area below the jaw heals faster compared to the chest area around the nipple.

Additionally, beard grafts are generally thicker and more androgenic compared to those from the chest.

Approximately 1000-2000 grafts can be harvested from these areas. This is crucial in achieving satisfactory results. It is also not advisable to transplant all of these grafts to the same area.

Furthermore, a region that has been tested in our clinic recently and has proven to have a high success rate is the cheek beard area. Many clinics refrain from harvesting grafts from this area due to the risk of scarring, but in our clinic, we are able to extract grafts from this area without leaving scars using very thin punches and shallow incisions.

I am providing you with images related to this topic below. Grafts harvested from this area are closer to natural hair. And approximately 1000-2000 grafts can be obtained from this area.

In summary, in a patient from whom we can only harvest 2000 grafts from the donor area on the scalp, we can achieve numbers ranging from 5000-6000 grafts by utilizing the chin, cheek, and chest areas. We can achieve excellent results for patients who are deemed unsuitable for the procedure in many clinics.
